Barling
Smoking pipe brand with origins dating back to 1812, when Benjamin Barling opened his first shop in London. The Barling family had been silversmiths in England since the 1700s and their first appearance in the world of pipes with silver mounts took place in 1812. Modern pipe production proper began in 1851 and for over a century the company earned an enviable reputation for excellent smoking characteristics and a unique interpretation of classic shapes. From 1865 Barling began working with briar, finishing it in silver alongside its meerschaum models. In the 19th century it became further known for its innovative briar working technique, which involved using high-quality roots previously seasoned for several years before working. Today the brand continues the tradition with a range of classic English and French designs, available in various finishes including Ye Olde Wood, Bark and Fossil, many models featuring the brand's distinctive silverwork.
